An unforgettable day in Siena

Among all the Tuscan cities, the one that best collects in a perfect combination of art, beauty, panoramas, traditions and history is certainly Siena, strong in its recognition even today in the different districts that animate it and that challenge twice a year in the famous Palio.
Its geographical position in the center of the region facilitates its achievement; in fact, in Siena you can arrive by car and park in the numerous car parks adjacent to the historic, by bus or train.
Even from our bed and breakfast you can reach it in about 1 hour and 30 minutes by car, a little more if you use public transport, passing through campaigns that seem to come straight out of a painting.

Piazza del Campo is a truly unique place, characterized by the unusual shell shape and the brick-colored pavement. Here the famous Palio takes place on July 2 and August 16, very much felt by the Sienese, also and above all by those who live abroad but return to their hometown for the occasion.
The Palazzo del Comune overlooks the square, where it is really impossible not to enter to admire the wonderful frescoes by Ambrogio Lorenzetti representing Good and Bad Government, as well as the Torre del Mangia which, with its 87 meters of height, dominates the city and its surroundings. on which you can get on (the ticket can be done on the spot and is payable).
Leaving the square, in a few minutes walk you can reach the Piazza del Duomo where there are the cathedral, the crypt, the Piccolomini Library, the Baptistery and the museum of the Opera del Duomo. Each monument is a real jewel and it would be worthwhile to see them all, also thanks to the possibility to save a lot on the cost of the ticket, buying the ticket OPASi Pass, cumulative of all the attractions (more info here).

The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta will leave you breathless given its grandeur; is one of the best examples of Italian Romanesque-Gothic architecture, and if the exterior will hit you for the abundant use of polychrome marble (white and green), the interior will amaze you even more with works by masters such as Nicola Pisano , Michelangelo, Donatello, but above all with the marble inlaid floor, composed of 56 panels (completely discovered and visible only in August and September).

Once out of the cathedral you can continue your visit in the central area of ​​the city, strolling through the shopping streets, also rich in restaurants and wine bars where you can, indeed having to taste delicious dishes and typical products, the panforte for example!
