It is said that during the second century BC a Roman commander, engaged in the battle against the Ligurian to conquer that territory, wanted to reward the soldiers for its value by putting it to the test: knowing that the latter wanted to build a house on that hill to live in peace, she allowed him to use the area which would be able to occupy the skin of an ox. This peaceful accepted the offer, in a shocker commander, who thought that at most would be able to cover an area sufficient for his grave. The soldier instead secretly cut the ox hide in many strips that used to fit around a large plot of land on the hill; the commander had to concede so the soldier. Since that ground was born Buggiano.
